World Wide Knit in Public Day

Merchants Square (organized by Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn)
June 13 starting at 11 am

World Wide Knit in Public Day is just around the corner, and fiber enthusiasts are encouraged to mark their calendars for June 13, 2026.

The team at Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn is hosting a celebration for World Wide Knit in Public Day starting at 11:00 AM on June 13. Attendees will gather informally around the public chairs, tables, and benches located in the center of the one-block pedestrian walkway on Duke of Gloucester Street in Merchants Square, right in downtown Williamsburg, VA. Participants can easily spot the group, introduce themselves, and join the gathering.

Before heading to the walkway, knitters can check in at the Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn retail location at 409 W. Duke of Gloucester Street (fronting the P3 parking lot) to meet the team and share in the excitement. In the case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors, and guests are welcome to knit around the shop’s work table.

Participants should bring their current works-in-progress. The event will feature Knitter’s Trivia with small prizes and plenty of opportunities to socialize. It is also an ideal occasion to pass skills along to beginners, so seasoned crafters are encouraged to demonstrate and teach the joy of creating fiber garments, accessories, and toys. Attendees are also welcome to bring along samples of their finished work for a show-and-tell session. Guests should remember to bring water to stay hydrated while outdoors.

To support the gathering, Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn will provide several free patterns to share, extra needles, and spare yarn for use during the event.

This is a free event, and no reservations are required.

World Wide Knit in Public Day was originally started in 2005 by Danielle Landes and takes place annually on the second Saturday in June. Over the years, the event has served to show the general public that people of all ages can enjoy knitting while enlivening the local community through a shared creative activity.
