Buddhist Monks Continue 2,300-Mile Walk for Peace, Promoting Mindfulness and Compassion This is not a protest but a living expression of hope. Each step is taken with mindfulness, carrying a message of harmony, kindness, and resilience.

On October 26, 2025 group of Buddhist monks, accompanied by a loyal dog named Aloka, began a 120-day, 2,300-mile walk, that began at the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center in Fort Worth, Texas, and will commence in Washington, D.C., in an effort to raise awareness about inner peace, mindfulness, and compassionate living across the United States and beyond.

Known as the Walk for Peace, the journey is rooted in a simple but powerful message: the words people speak and the actions they take are shaped by their inner state of mind. Organizers emphasize that when individuals cultivate mindfulness and inner calm, their communication naturally becomes more thoughtful, healing, and compassionate.

The walk highlights how daily mindfulness, particularly awareness of one’s breath and emotional state, can lead to greater clarity and intention. When people are present and grounded, they are more likely to pause before reacting, listen more deeply, and choose words that comfort rather than harm. In contrast, moments of inner turmoil can lead to misunderstandings, impulsive speech, and unintended emotional pain often toward those closest to us.

Through this cross-country journey, the monks aim to remind communities that peace begins internally. By nurturing awareness and calm within ourselves, they say, our words can become tools for connection, understanding, and healing rather than sources of conflict or regret.

People ask how they can get a blessing cord – these are free gift of peace and mindfulness offered to those who meet the Venerable Monks during the Walk for Peace. The monks shared in a post that: “In recent days, our hearts have been filled with a quiet joy as we witnessed something truly beautiful, so many parents bringing their children to meet us along the path. These little ones stood by the roadside like small rays of sunshine, offering flowers with shy grace, waving with bright smiles, and extending their hands in gentle greeting. To look into their eyes is to see a world of wonder and a pure, uncomplicated kindness. Their presence made the path feel lighter. It is a humbling reminder that peace is being planted in the next generation, nurtured by parents who teach compassion by example, showing their children that being present for one another is a gift in itself. To every parent who brought your child to witness this journey, thank you for sharing with them that simple acts of kindness have a profound meaning. And to every child who greeted us, your smiles and flowers have touched us deeply, filling our hearts with a gentle hope for the future.”
