Now in its 57th year, An Occasion for the Arts is Williamsburg’s signature art and music festival, transforming Merchants Square and Duke of Gloucester Street into a vibrant open-air gallery and stage. This free community event brings together artists, performers, students, and visitors for a weekend of creativity and celebration.
Festival Highlights
🎨 Fine Arts Show
Explore original works by 150+ juried artists in painting, photography, jewelry, ceramics, glass, fiber, wood, sculpture, mixed media, and more.
🎶 Live Music & Performances
Two stages host nonstop entertainment all weekend—ranging from ballet and Celtic ensembles to multicultural drumming, Motown folk, bluegrass, and local singer-songwriters.
👩‍🎨 Youth Art Show
Celebrate young talent with 2D and 3D works from elementary through high school students across Williamsburg, James City County, and Upper York County.
🧵 Community Art Project
Join artist Steve Prince and the Muscarelle Museum of Art in creating the 250th Great American Birthday Quilt, a community storytelling project honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Music & Performance Schedule
Enjoy performances throughout the weekend on the Main Stage and Prince George Stage—from Flute Frenzy and the Williamsburg Youth Harp Society to Irish music, bluegrass, and more.
