NetworkPeninsula is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports more than 150 nonprofits across the Peninsula through continuing education, Board Training, networking, and information sharing. Our mission is to raise awareness of the needs on the Peninsula, encourage involvement from community members & strengthen nonprofits by increasing resources and opportunities available to them. We believe that a healthy nonprofit sector leads to healthier communities.
Founded in 2007 as NetworkWilliamsburg, we expanded to NetworkPeninsula in 2013 to serve nonprofits in Williamsburg, James City and York Counties, Newport News, Hampton, Gloucester-Mathews, Poquoson, and surrounding communities; helping them to expand their reach out into the communities in which we live, work, and play. We do this by connecting nonprofits to individuals, businesses, civic and faith-based groups and to opportunities and resources that help them meet the growing needs of our neighbors.
Our vision is to create a Networked Community of stakeholders who understand the value of programs that strengthen and sustain local nonprofits. We hope you will join us in supporting the nonprofits and causes that matter most to you.
As we work toward our mission, our goal remains the same, to strengthen the capacity of nonprofits and help them fulfill their missions effectively and efficiently.
- Raising Awareness – we help nonprofits expand their networks by providing community members with a central access point to review and respond to the needs of nonprofits serving the Peninsula region of Virginia. This includes volunteers needed, items needed, upcoming events, and much more!
- Encouraging Involvement – we create opportunities for individuals, businesses, and civic and faith-based groups to support multiple area nonprofits, to increase their own outreach efforts, and to create meaningful change in our community. We offer Board Training classes and other opportunities for community, business, and nonprofit leaders to gather to discuss issues that impact our community. We can also help you or your group coordinate collection drives, work days, and other service projects that match your interests to the needs of nonprofits. Our Youth Network also works to encourage youth to get involved in community service.
- Strengthening Nonprofits – we help build the capacity of nonprofits by connecting them to opportunities and resources that can help them grow their organizations. Programs include monthly continuing education workshops, networking opportunities, Board Training, a grants database, discounts from area businesses, and fundraising events to benefit multiple nonprofits.
NEXT – Nonprofit EXcellence in Training – We have partnered with highly skilled professionals & educators to provide the NEXT Program – continuing education for nonprofit staff, Board members & volunteers. Workshops have been designed to help nonprofits take the NEXT step in growing their organization by increasing productivity & effectiveness & maximizing the impact they have on the community.
Our Youth Network is designed to encourage youth in our community to get involved while also gaining experience in a field of interest, helping people in need, and making an impact on our community for good. We hold Aware Fairs at area schools to give students an opportunity to speak with nonprofits and learn how they can help. We also publish the Youth Resource Booklet – A Student’s Guide to Volunteering on the Peninsula every year to provide students with a resource on opportunities available to them. There’s something for students of all ages!
Our Board Network includes our Nonprofit Board Training Series designed to help community members better understand the roles, responsibilities, and rewards of serving on a nonprofit Board. A database of graduates is available to registered nonprofits looking for knowledgeable, committed, and productive Board members. Additionally, a closed online discussion group encourages graduates to continue to share ideas, ask questions, and network with each other long after their class ends.
