The 28th Annual Working Wood in the 18th Century

28th Annual Working Wood in the 18th Century
Hennage Auditorium in the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg 301 S Nassau Street, Williamsburg

Chairs tell stories of the people, places, and traditions that shaped them. This year’s program explores six chairs from different periods and cultural backgrounds, all connected by a shared human need for a good place to sit. From the colonial era through the early years of nationhood, expert speakers and artisans from Colonial Williamsburg will examine early American chairmaking through carving, turning, joinery, design, and upholstery.
The program features leading chairmakers, scholars, and craftspeople, hands-on demonstrations, and behind-the-scenes learning opportunities. Designed for both newcomers and experienced woodworkers, the event is available in person and virtually.
